Becker's Healthcare is pleased to recognize the following 58 hospitals with innovation programs.

The hospitals and health systems on this list have committed to keeping up with — or getting ahead of — the pace of change in healthcare. These hospitals formed dedicated centers and institutes for innovation, research and development. The products coming out of these programs range from technological, including medical devices, diagnostics and mobile health platforms, to clinical workflows, simulation and process improvements.

Several hospitals featured on this list have established commercialization arms and technology transfer offices addressing some of the biggest challenges facing patient care and care delivery.

Innovation Programs 2017

Advocate Cerner Collaborative (Downers Grove, Ill.). Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care and Cerner joined forces in 2012 to launch the Advocate Cerner Collaborative, a program focused on bringing population health insights into clinical workflows. [CLICK HERE]

Ascend Innovations (Dayton, Ohio). Dayton Children's Hospital, Kettering Health Network, Premier Health and Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association teamed up in 2015 to establish Ascend Innovations. [CLICK HERE]

Akron (Ohio) Children's Hospital's Center for Patient Experience Innovation. The Center for Patient Experience Innovation pilots projects to enhance positive healthcare experiences for patients and their families as they move throughout the care continuum. [CLICK HERE]

Baylor Scott & White Office of Digital Health (Dallas). Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health launched the Baylor Scott & White Office of Digital Health in 2016 under the purview of Nick Reddy, the health system's chief digital officer. [CLICK HERE]

Baylor Scott & White Health's Technology Transfer Office (Dallas). As the commercialization arm of the Office of Research Business Development at Baylor Scott & White Health, the Technology Transfer Office aims to foster innovation throughout the health system. [CLICK HERE]

Baystate Health's TechSpring (Springfield, Mass.). The Baystate Health Technology Innovation Center, or TechSpring, was launched in 2014 to advance digital health innovation. [CLICK HERE]

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center's Technology Ventures Office (Boston). The Technology Ventures Office evaluates and supports Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center faculty's innovative ideas. [CLICK HERE]

Boston Children's Hospital's Innovation & Digital Health Accelerator. The Innovation & Digital Health Accelerator's goal is to extend the reach of Boston Children's Hospital expertise through collaboration between clinical care, data analytics and software development experts to vet digital health ideas from inside and outside the organization. Brigham and Women's Hospital's Brigham Digital Innovation Hub (Boston). The Brigham Digital Innovation Hub, or iHub, serves as a resource center for Brigham and Women's Hospital clinicians, researchers and staff who have novel ideas to drive patient-centered care. [CLICK HERE]

Children's Hospital Colorado's Center for Innovation (Aurora). The Center for Innovation supports Children's Hospital Colorado's faculty, staff and administrators with ideas for drugs, medical devices, diagnostics and digital health technologies related to pediatrics, including clinical care and patient experience. CHOC Children's (Orange, Calif.). CHOC Children's is home to the Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence and Innovation Institute, an institute focused innovation and intelligence in pediatric medicine.[CLICK HERE]

Children's Hospital Los Angeles' Center for Innovation. The Center for Innovation at Children's Hospital Los Angeles connects its clinicians, administrators and researchers with partners from the technology and pharmaceutical industries to help them develop and commercialize devices and therapies for pediatric care. Children's National Health System's Bear Institute (Washington, D.C.). In 2013, the Bear Institute for Health Innovation launched through a partnership between Children's National Health System and Cerner. [CLICK HERE]

Cleveland Clinic Innovations. Cleveland Clinic Innovations was founded in 2000 to assess, build, test and market inventive ideas from the health system's more than 51,000 caregivers. [CLICK HERE]

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Center for Surgical Innovation (Lebanon, N.H.). The Center for Surgical Innovation at Dartmouth-Hitchcock supports surgeons and engineers with developing, testing and validating surgical tools and techniques. [CLICK HERE]

El Camino Hospital's Fogarty Institute for Innovation (Mountain View, Calif.). Thomas J. Fogarty, MD, a cardiovascular surgeon who has founded more than 45 medical device companies throughout his career, launched the Fogarty Institute for Innovation in 2007 to spur medical device development and to help early-stage startups bring their products to market. Florida Hospital's Innovation Lab (Orlando). The Innovation Lab at Florida Hospital serves as an incubator for ideas related to patient care. [CLICK HERE]

Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin's Inception Health (Milwaukee). Inception Health provides a digital health hub for Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. [CLICK HERE]

Hartford (Conn.) Hospital's Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation. The Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation was launched in 1999 as Connecticut's first simulation center. [CLICK HERE]

Henry Ford Innovation Institute (Detroit). The Henry Ford Innovation Institute launched as an independent scientific research and education entity in 2012. [CLICK HERE]

Holy Name Medical Center Institute for Simulation Learning (Teaneck, N.J.). The Institute for Simulation Learning at Holy Name Medical Center offers clinicians, medical students, administrators and corporate professionals opportunities to practice skills and protocols in customized simulation settings similar to their actual work environments. Hospital for Special Surgery's Global Innovation Institute at HSS (New York City). The Global Innovation Institute at HSS is comprised of a life sciences innovation center, a care delivery innovation center and an innovation fund to support the development of early stage technologies with commercial viability in the musculoskeletal field. Intermountain Healthcare's Healthcare Transformation Lab (Murray, Utah). Intermountain Healthcare — named one of "Health Care's Most Wired" for 2016 by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine — opened its innovation center 10 miles south of Salt Lake City in August 2013. [CLICK HERE]

Johns Hopkins Medicine's Sibley Innovation Hub (Washington, D.C.).The Johns Hopkins Sibley Innovation Hub is staffed by a team of designers, engineers, technologists and project managers working in a 5,000-square-foot open innovation space. [CLICK HERE]

Kaiser Permanente's Sidney R. Garfield Health Care Innovation Center (San Leandro, Calif.). Bearing the name of Kaiser Permanente's founding physician, the Sidney R. Garfield Innovation Center launched in June 2006 to carry on Dr. Garfield's legacy of innovative hospital design, care delivery and embracing the power of computers in healthcare. [CLICK HERE]

Massachusetts General Hospital's John D. Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation (Boston). Massachusetts General Hospital opened its innovation center in 2000, naming it for John D. Stoeckle, MD, in commemoration of his commitment to improving the quality and delivery of primary care in his five decades with the hospital. [CLICK HERE]

Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation (Rochester, Minn.). Designers and administrators at the Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation aim to change healthcare delivery by focusing on the human experience to identify design needs. [CLICK HERE]

MD Anderson Cancer Center's Strategic Industry Ventures (Houston). MD Anderson's Strategic Industry Ventures works in collaboration with the Office of Technology Commercialization to bring new drugs, diagnostics, devices and information solutions to market that will benefit cancer patients. Memorial Sloan Kettering Department of Strategy & Innovation (New York City). The Memorial Sloan Kettering Department of Strategy & Innovation utilizes design, analytics and strategy to establish the institution as the frontrunner in cancer research. [CLICK HERE]

Mercy Medical Center's Mercy Innovation Center (Des Moines, Iowa). The Mercy Innovation Center was founded in February 2014 with the goal of redesigning the health system's delivery model to enhance patient care. [CLICK HERE]

Mills-Peninsula Health Services Center for Innovation & Research (Burlingame, Calif.). The Mills-Peninsula Health Services Center for Innovation serves as a "living laboratory" for researchers to create innovative care models, services and treatments. [CLICK HERE]

Mission Health System's Mission Center for Innovation (Asheville, N.C.). Mission Center for Innovation aims to encourage collaboration among Mission Health System's various departments and accelerate the creative process. [CLICK HERE]

Montefiore Einstein Center for Innovation in Simulation (Bronx, N.Y.). The Montefiore Einstein Center for Innovation in Simulation features a multidisciplinary training environment to teach healthcare professionals improved patient safety techniques and practices at all stages of their careers. Mount Sinai Innovation Partners (New York City). Mount Sinai Innovation Partners serves as the technology transfer office for the New York City-based Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai and New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System. [CLICK HERE]

Nationwide Children's Hospital's Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice (Columbus, Ohio). Nationwide Children's Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice researchers aim to employ innovative computer and information technologies to improve pediatric patient health. [CLICK HERE]

Nemours Children's Health System's Center for Healthcare Delivery Innovation (Orlando, Fla.). Nemours Center for Health Delivery Innovation leverages all its digital assets, which have evolved over 20 years to meet patients’/families’ needs and create a frictionless virtual experience unique in healthcare today. NewYork-Presbyterian Hospitals' NYP Innovation Center. Researchers at the NYP Innovation Center aim to improve the NewYork-Presbyterian's digital health platform by strengthening the health system's telehealth services. [CLICK HERE]

NorthShore University HealthSystem's Grainger Center for Simulation and Innovation (Evanston, Ill.). The 13,000-square-foot facility is located within NorthShore Evanston (Ill.) Hospital and hosts two programs dedicated to spurring knowledge and innovation. [CLICK HERE]

Northwestern Medicine's Program for Healthcare Quality and Safety (Evanston, Ill.). With several degree options available to students, Northwestern Medicine's healthcare quality and safety program is designed to teach healthcare students and professionals the importance of improving patient safety measures across the profession. Ochsner Health System's innovationOchsner (New Orleans). Ochsner Health System launched innovationOchsner in 2014 and has engaged in a variety of digital health ventures to improve the quality of care across the health system. [CLICK HERE]

OSF HealthCare's OSF Innovation (Peoria, Ill.). Launched in June 2016, OSF Innovation at OSF HealthCare describes its mission as "translating ideas that align with [its] vision of transforming healthcare into value." [CLICK HERE]

Parkview Health's Mirro Center for Research and Innovation (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Honoring cardiologist Michael Mirro, MD, the Mirro Center for Research and Innovation is 82,000 square feet and houses more than 90 rooms. [CLICK HERE]

Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation (Philadelphia). The Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation's mission revolves around five key areas: making people healthier; bringing care into people's lives; reducing healthcare costs; enabling and accelerating innovation; and encouraging and catalyzing others. Penn State Children's Hospital's Pediatric Innovation Program (Hershey, Pa.). A joint effort between Penn State Children's Hospital, Penn State University and industry partners, the Penn State Children's Hospital Pediatric Innovation Program creates a space for a multidisciplinary discussion about technology development for infants and children. Phoenix Children's Data Lake. Launched in 2011, Phoenix Children's Data Lake is dedicated to leveraging the hospital's data to provide actionable insights for patient care. The big data initiative currently gathers data from 65 of the organization's systems. [CLICK HERE]

ProMedica Innovations (Toledo, Ohio). ProMedica, a nonprofit health system, established ProMedica Innovations in 2012 with the mission of supporting local inventors with their life science technology development. [CLICK HERE]

Sutter Health Design & Innovation (Sacramento, Calif.). Sutter Health Design & Innovation, launched in 2015, focuses on a human-centered and holistic design to deliver "simple, engaging and human" healthcare. [CLICK HERE]

The Innovation Institute (La Palma, Calif.). The Innovation Institute came to fruition in 2013 as a for-profit limited liability company, and now encompasses 15 portfolio companies with revenues exceeding $200 million. [CLICK HERE]

Jefferson Accelerator Zone (Philadelphia). Opened in 2015, the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's Jefferson Accelerator Zone houses the hospital's innovation activities, including the Innovation Engagement Speaker Series and Health Hackathon events. [CLICK HERE]

UCHealth CARE Innovation Center Applied Decision Science Lab (Aurora, Colo.). Richard Zane, MD, UCHealth chief innovation officer, and Steven Hess, chief information officer, head the CARE Innovation Center Applied Decision Science Lab. [CLICK HERE]
