Children’s National Health System’s Bear Institute (Washington, D.C.). In 2013, the Bear Institute for Health Innovation launched through a partnership between Children’s National Health System and Cerner. The IT hub brings together a cross-disciplinary team of developers, architects, researchers and clinicians to oversee the health system’s IT services. In recent years, the team has developed tools to help families navigate Children’s National Health System and rolled out an online patient portal. In 2015, the Bear Institute earned the CHIME-AHA Transformational Leadership Award from the American Hospital Association and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives.
