Phoenix Children’s Data Lake. Launched in 2011, Phoenix Children’s Data Lake is dedicated to leveraging the hospital’s data to provide actionable insights for patient care. The big data initiative currently gathers data from 65 of the organization’s systems. With the Data Lake, Phoenix Children’s assessed more than 1 million prescriptions to create “very high” and “dangerously high” dose thresholds based on age and weight. The health system created an alert when doses exceeded the proper range, which has significantly reduced medication errors. The Data Lake also enhanced kidney monitoring by offering real-time analysis of patients’ kidneys, alerting providers of any potential kidney damage.
