El Camino Hospital’s Fogarty Institute for Innovation (Mountain View, Calif.). Thomas J. Fogarty, MD, a cardiovascular surgeon who has founded more than 45 medical device companies throughout his career, launched the Fogarty Institute for Innovation in 2007 to spur medical device development and to help early-stage startups bring their products to market. The institute, located on the campus of El Camino Hospital, comprises collaborative laboratory and engineering space for participating physicians, medical staff and innovators. To date, the Fogarty Institute for Innovation has supported 20 innovators through mentorship and education opportunities, such as facilitating access to intellectual and financial resources.
