Akron General to Commercialize Wellness Programs

Akron (Ohio) General Medical Center has entered into a joint venture with Signet Development, a developer of both public and private real estate projects, to commercialize the health system's wellness programs, according to a news release by the health system.

Together, the two groups will form a new company, Integrated Wellness Partners, to develop wellness facilities nationally. These facilities will be similar to the three wellness facilities currently operated by Akron General, which offer emergency and outpatient services and feature a fitness center and sports performance services.

The new venture is intended to increase "nontraditional forms" revenue for the health system in order to help the system maintain its "commitment to honor its mission of improving the health and lives of the people and communities [served]," according to the release.
