Question: What are your top priorities for 2022?

Sebastien Girard: As a human resources executive, my top priorities are:

i. Adapting to the new employment market landscape, which is currently being morphed by the Great Resignation

ii. Retaining Centura’s incredible caregivers by implementing retention strategies that matters the most to them

iii. Redesigning talent acquisition to adapt to the current market – which is job seeker’s market

iv. Providing the best whole health resources - body, mind and spirit - to support to Centura’s incredible people

Q: What will the lasting legacy of COVID-19 be on the healthcare system?

SG: “Never Let a Good Crisis go to Waste” – Winston Churchill.

The pandemic forced the healthcare industry to adapt swiftly to the new realities of the employment market and to the rising needs of our patients. Ultimately, while the pandemic has been devastating, I believe there have been changes that will have a positive and long-lasting impact on the industry. Some of the lasting changes include a new, wholistic approach to experience for employees, patients, communities, and candidates, and adopting the use of new technologies to increase access to care for patients and enhance productivity for employees, while allowing them the flexibility to work remote.

Q: What advice do you have for emerging healthcare leaders today?

SG: Patients, quality of care and safety always comes first. More than ever, communities are in needs of forward thinking healthcare organizations that have easy and convenient access to care. The way the market is shifting through the Great Resignation, the only ways to win are:

i. Candidate experience and acting with urgency in the hiring process is key to efficient talent acquisition

ii. Retention is everything. Once we attract great talent we need to make sure we keep them!

iii. Thinking differently about staffing models iv. Process improvement and adopting new technology to improve productivity and/or decrease workload
