Kaleida Health in New York Opens Gates Vascular Institute

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health announced the opening of the new Gates Vascular Institute and the University at Buffalo's Clinical and Translational Research Center.

The $291 million combined facility is located adjacent to the Buffalo General Medical Center. The Gates Vascular Institute includes four floors for surgical and interventional management of cardiac, vascular and neurological conditions, a 16-bed specialized intensive care unit and a 62-bed short-stay suite. GVI and GBMC together include a new emergency department, 610 beds, 28 operating rooms, 17 interventional labs, four CT scanners and four MRIs.

The GVI/CTRC building is part of the UB 2020 strategic plan to move the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to downtown Buffalo, strengthen its research and increase its economic impact on the city.

Kaleida Health and UB expect having physicians and researchers in one facility will lead to advancements in care and the development of new medical technologies.
