Florida's Sacred Heart Health System to Form System-Based Cardiology Group

In response to the decision by a region's largest group of heart specialists to move headquarters, Laura Kaiser, CEO of Pensacola, Fla.-based Sacred Heart Health System, is beginning to form its own cardiology group within the system, according to a Pensacola News Journal report.

Cardiology Consultants, which was acquired by Pensacola-based Baptist Health Care approximately 18 months ago, is moving headquarters to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, which sparked concerns that Sacred Heart patients would have less access to cardiologists.

Although both Baptist and Cardiology Consultants leaders have assured continuing service to Sacred Heart, Ms. Kaiser said, "I can't rely wholly on Cardiology Consultants," according to the report. The Sacred Heart-based cardiology group she hopes to create will provide additional cardiology services similar to those of Cardiology Consultants, not replacement services.

Paul A. Tamburro, MD, will head the effort to build a cardiology group at the system.
