Dr. Ramanathan Raju Named Head of Cook County Health System in Illinois

Ramanathan Raju, MD, has been appointed to lead Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Chicago, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Dr. Raju comes from New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, where he served as executive vice president for medical and professional affairs. Before joining HHC, Dr. Raju served as CMO of Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn before being promoted to COO of the hospital in 2005.

According to the report, Dr. Raju helped lead the New York health system out of a $1 billion deficit. Cook County's health system currently faces similar problems, with a staggering $96 million deficit this year.
