OIG audits begin for MU

The HHS Office of Audit Services of the Office of the Inspector General has begun its random audits of providers that have received payments for meaningful use attestation.

The random sample of providers comes from those who attested to meaningful use between Jan. 1, 2011 and June 30, 2014. The OIG will review certain meaningful use measures to determine whether a provider rightfully received incentive funds, according to the National Law Review.

The OIG will send audit notices requesting specific information and documents to the providers in question. One measure up for review is the requirement for providers to conduct security risk analyses. Providers should have documentation for each measure that they can submit to auditors, according to the report.

The new round of audits cover all incentive payments received over the four-year period, unlike the meaningful use audits conducted by contractor Figliozzi & Company, which cover attestation for a single reporting period, according to the report.
