CMS Training Session Goes Over Administrative Requirements for EHR Users

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology held a free training session on eligibility issues, the relationship between HITECH and other government incentive programs and how the state and federal government will harmonize Medicaid and Medicaid reimbursement, according to an Information Week report.

In January 2011, all providers must meet the following administrative requirements in addition to meeting "meaningful use": Register via the EHR Incentive Program website, enroll in Medicare FFS, MA, or Medicaid and have a National Provider Identifier. Through the website, states will verify provider eligibility and ensure that no duplicate payments are made.

According to the report, CMS changed one requirement that originally required providers to manually calculate the denominator for the electronically related numerators CMS wanted to collect. Now only some of the requirements will need a manual count; other tasks that are performed only in EHR will be calculated electronically.
