Thomas Jefferson University gets $70M donation for 12-story biomed research building

Philadelphia-based Thomas Jefferson University has recieved a $70 million gift to support construction of a 12-story biomedical research facility, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal. 

The donation, from Sidney and Caroline Kimmel, is the second-largest in the university's history. 

The building, expected to cost at least $300 million, will be named the Caroline Kimmel Biomedical Research Building. 

The research expansion is part of Jefferson University's "reimagine" fundraising campaign, which aims to raise $1 billion by 2024.

Mr. Kimmel is founder of women's clothing company Jones New York. He was the company's chairman and CEO when he sold it in 2014. He has been married to Ms. Kimmel for 20 years.
