Florida hospital focuses on insured in new price transparency tool

Miami-based Jackson Health System is testing out a new approach in price transparency, reports WLRN.

This approach comes via the organization’s Care Quote program, which offers consumers free price estimates for healthcare services at Jackson facilities.

Care Quote is different from many traditional price estimators in how it takes into account an individual’s insurance plan, according to the article. Under the program, Jackson said it checks patients’ insurance information to provide quotes based on things such as their insurance plan design, deductibles and coinsurance.

The tool does not allow consumers to compare the estimated cost of the same procedure under different insurance providers or at different hospitals, reports WLRN. It also reflects the facility fees, but not the physician fees, the article states.

According to WLRN, Jackson administrators hope the tool will draw in more insured patients.
