The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia, part of Jefferson Health, has named Andrew Aplin, PhD, as deputy director of scientific strategy.

In his new role, Dr. Aplin will manage strategic research priorities aimed at advancing the cancer center's delivery of personalized care, Healio reported June 2. He will also oversee the cancer center's renewal for the National Cancer Institute-designation, and foster collaborations across basic, translational, clinical and population science researchers.

Dr. Aplin joined Jefferson Health in 2008 as an associate professor in cancer biology. Alongside his role as deputy director, he will also continue serving as associate director for basic research, which he took on in 2015.

Dr. Aplin is known for his research on how melanoma becomes resistant to targeted treatments.
