Minnesota mental health provider pleads guilty to role in $1.4M Medicaid fraud scheme

A Minnesota mental health provider pleaded guilty to wire fraud for his role in a $1.4 million Medicaid fraud scheme.

Abdirahman Yonis, 35, was a practitioner at Minnesota Multicultural Counseling Clinic, which had offices in St. Paul, Brooklyn Park and Roseville, Minn., the Justice Department said Nov. 9.

Mr. Yonis and others prepared fraudulent patient progress forms and interpreter verification forms for services not actually rendered. According to the Justice Department, they then submitted these claims to Minnesota Medicaid, which paid more than $1.4 million for services never provided.

Mr. Yonis' sentencing hearing will be scheduled for a later date.
