Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, nurses reach labor deal

Nurses at East Stroudsburg, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono reached a three-year contract agreement with management, according to a Pocono Record report.

The agreement covers about 400 nurses represented by JNESO. It addresses pay, benefits and healthcare, according to the report.

A spokesperson for the hospital told Becker's Hospital Review the agreement "was reached in the best interests of our patients, nurses and the community."

Karen May, JNESO's director of practice, said the contract included "minimal wage increases that offset substantial health benefits costs" as well as "slight increases in tuition fund."

She said the union also was "successful in holding off givebacks to guaranteed work." However, she contends staffing concerns weren't acknowledged as nurses would have liked.

The agreement comes about a year after East Stroudsburg-based Pocono Health System merged with Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network. Under the merger, which took effect Jan. 1, 2017, PMC became Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono.
