When a Hospital CEO Hates Social Media

Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, blogs. These tools are standing the test of time, not fading away as fads, and they are becoming staples in hospitals' communication strategies. Regardless, some CEOs and other leaders still have their doubts.

In a recent blog post, Ian Petty, senior creative adviser with the healthcare communications firm Jarrard Phillips Cate & Hancock, discussed best practices for hospital communication teams to convert their CEOs from social media-haters to believers.

"Make sure your non-believer CEO knows that social media is not going away and is a crucial part of your hospital's brand," Mr. Petty wrote in the post. "This is not a Pet Rock, people."

When speaking to CEOs, Mr. Petty recommends emphasizing social media's influence on internal engagement, its use in crisis communication and how it can effect patient satisfaction, consumer awareness and fundraising.
