Trump to nominate DC antitrust lawyer as chair of FTC

President Donald Trump will nominate Washington, D.C.-based antitrust lawyer Joseph Simons as chair of the Federal Trade Commission, according to a White House statement Oct. 19.

Mr. Simons is a partner and co-chair of the Antitrust Group at the law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. He had previously served at the agency during the early years of former President George W. Bush's administration, where he was in charge of antitrust enforcement.

The president also intends to appoint Rohit Chopra, OD, as a member of the FTC.

Dr. Chopra is currently a senior fellow at the Consumer Federation of America. He has held a number of government roles, but prior to his work in the sector, he was an associate at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
