New Jersey lawmakers propose hospital violence intervention bills

New Jersey legislators are looking to curb gun violence and the communitywide trauma it causes by introducing a legislative package that engages patients in hospitals, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

The bills would provide counseling, case management and social services to gunshot victims while they are still in the hospital in order to help stop the cycle of gun violence.

"Many hospitals see a 'revolving door' of gunshot injuries, as patients who have been shot are at a very high risk of being violently reinjured and committing violent acts themselves," said state Assemblyman Lou Greenwald.
