Question: Who or what are the disruptors that have your attention? Why?

Shawnna Cunning: Convenience and cost are the keys to healthcare of the future. Fast care clinics, telehealth and online information access are redefining how Americans access and utilize healthcare services. Telehealth in particular should be utilized for minor illnesses, psychiatry and chronic care management.

Q: Describe one of your best colleagues. What it is that person does/brings that makes them indispensable to your organization?

SC: Good work relationships are similar to personal relationships in many ways. My best coworker brings new ideas and dedication to the table, while simultaneously making others and myself better in her presence. They are honest, open communicators, innovators and motivators. They make things happen through their personality and ability to get others to do things they would not have accomplished without them.

Q: What did you notice about your healthcare experience the last time you were at the receiving end as a patient?

SC: My daughter was recently a patient and I was frequently upset because, despite the fact that I am an educated healthcare worker myself, the staff talk to patients and families like they are ignorant, beneath them, and without rights. I was spoken to and not asked what I desired for my child or what she wanted. I felt my rights were not a consideration and even perhaps violated. Healthcare workers need to include patients and families in care and respect their rights, opinions and valuable insight into their own care.
