70% of Americans are in the dark about ACA individual mandate repeal

The ACA's individual mandate was repealed as part of the Republican tax bill passed in December, but many Americans are still confused about the status of the mandate, according to a Kaiser Health Tracking Poll.

Interviews for the survey were conducted over the phone from Feb. 15 to Feb. 20 and March 8 to 13 among a random sample of 2,534 U.S. adults.

The mandate was repealed in December, but it will not go into effect until 2019. However,  27 percent of respondents did not know the status of the mandate and 43 percent thought it had not been repealed.

For all non-group enrollees ages 18-64, 19 percent of respondents did not know the status of the mandate and 38 percent thought it had not been repealed, while 55 percent of uninsured respondents ages 18-64 thought it had not been repealed and 24 percent did not know.
