Seattle Children's, Franciscan Health System Partner for Neonatal Care

Tacoma, Wash.-based Franciscan Health System and Seattle Children's Hospital announced a new partnership for neonatal care beginning in early 2013.

Under the partnership, Seattle Children's neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners will provide 24/7 care to premature and critically ill newborns at St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma and 24/7 neonatal support and consultation at St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Wash., and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Enumclaw, Wash.

Franciscan is expanding and remodeling its 18-bed Level II special care nursery at St. Joseph to include a five-bed Level III neonatal intensive care unit, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013. Seattle Children's team will work with the Franciscan team on on-site management of the daily operations of the Level II and Level III beds at St. Joseph, and the Level II beds in the special care nursery at St. Francis Hospital.
