Illinois Public Health Department Says Two New Hospitals Fail to Meet Standards

The Illinois Department of Public Health has determined proposals by two health systems to build new hospitals in McHenry County fail to meet state standards, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

The Department of Public Health released two reports this week. One report addressed Janesville, Wis.-based Mercy Health Systems certificate of need application to build a 128-bed hospital in Crystal Lake, Ill., saying its application fell failed to meet five of 17 criteria. The other report addressed Crystal Lake-based Centegra Health System's CON to build a 128-bed hospital in Huntley, Ill, saying it failed to meet three criteria.

A representative of the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board said however that failing to fully comply with all criteria is not uncommon and such proposals have been approved in the past, according to the report.

The Review Board is scheduled to consider both CON applications on June 28.
