LSU Health System Replaces Fred Cerise as Leader

Louisiana State University's Health Care Services Division has removed Fred Cerise, MD, MPH, as head of the University's state-wide network of clinics and hospitals, according to a report by The Advocate.

Dr. Cerise had been with LSU for almost 20 years, most recently as VP of health services and medical education, according to the report. The position oversaw LSU Health Science Centers and the LSU Health Care Services Division, which operates multiple hospitals and clinics.

LSU health system has created a new position to replace Dr. Cerise and his former position. Frank Opelka, MD, FACS, will take over in the newly-created position of executive vice president for health care and medical education redesign.

The LSU health system is facing a $300 million cut to funding it receives to treat the poor and uninsured and has been undergoing changes due to that cut, according to the report.
