Between 2009 and 2014, more than 40 million Americans' protected health information was compromised, not including the recently reported breach at Anthem affecting 80 million people.
In 2014, 9 million patient records were impacted, which is approximately 25 percent more than in 2013, according to Redspin, a healthcare IT security assessment service.
Additionally, more than half of the breaches in 2014 were due to hackers, Redspin reports.
