CHRISTUS to Launch Multi-State Health Information Exchange

CHRISTUS Health, a non-profit Catholic health system based in Irving, Texas, has partnered with Medicity, a health information exchange solutions company, to launch an HIE infrastructure across seven states, including Texas, Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, Georgia, Utah and New Mexico, according to a Medicity news release.

CHRISTUS' goal in the HIE initiative is to enable interoperability and sharing of health information across a large network, connecting patients, physicians and registries across state boundaries. The first part of the health system's implementation will begin by extending connectivity to an additional 900 employed and affiliated physicians, regardless of whether those providers have an electronic health record system.

CHRISTUS will also automate laboratory and radiology orders across the HIE and implement peer-to-peer referral functionality. Eventually, implementation will extend access to long-term care and home health providers. Implementation will begin in Texas before expanding across all seven states.
