7 Recent Healthcare Data Breaches

 

Here are seven data breaches that occurred within the past month, starting with the most recent.

 

1. On Feb. 3, officials at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, Minn., discovered the medical center's employee database had been unlawfully accessed, exposing the information of about 500 employees.

2. Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., notified approximately 1,900 patients that a temporary contractor with a criminal record of identity theft had access to their personal and health information.

3. St. Joseph Health System in Bryan, Texas, notified more than 400,000 patients and employees about a cyberattack that exposed their personal and medical information.

4. Unity Health Plans Insurance Corporation announced the loss of a hard drive containing the protected health information of more than 41,000 Unity members.

5. Two employees at North Country Hospital in Newport, Vt., accessed patient records inappropriately, causing the hospital's second data breach in four months.

6. Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health System notified approximately 1,800 patients their personal or medical information may have been compromised when a phishing scam affected three physicians' email accounts.

7. Patient health information was compromised at one of Texas' 10 state-run psychiatric hospitals five times in the past six months.
