Olmsted Medical Center Data Breach Exposes Employees' Information

On Feb. 3, officials at Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester, Minn., discovered the medical center's employee database had been unlawfully accessed, exposing the information of about 500 employees.

An ongoing investigation has yet to produce evidence that any of the information has been misused. However, the medical center is reaching out to affected employees, offering a year of credit monitoring and urging them to both file their 2013 taxes as soon as possible and contact the IRS Identity Theft Division to minimize their risk.

"Olmsted Medical Center considers this incident an extremely serious, unlawful and unauthorized breach of private and privileged information, and is aggressively investigating the event," said hospital officials in a statement.
