Consumer-facing genetics company 23andMe is planning to allow its customers to use iPhones to share their genetic information with medical researchers, according to a MIT Technology Review report.
23andMe customers will be able to share the information by clicking through a consent process, according to the report. Eventually, consumers may be able to share their genetic data with a single swipe of the finger on their device.
Intially, two iPhone-based studies will use data shared by 23andMe customers. One study, being conducted by Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine, focuses on cardiovascular research and the other, led by a researcher at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York, focuses on asthma.
