Minnesota's United Hospital District Approves $22K Raise for CEO

Board members of United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minn., voted Tuesday to give their CEO a $22,000 pay hike, according to a Faribault County Register report.

According to the report, the UHD board met on April 4 to review Jeff Lang's job performance based on information from medical staff, organizational leaders and board members. The board members found the scores on the evaluations were "good to excellent."

The raise will bring Mr. Lang's salary to $185,000 from $163,000, an increase of nearly 13.5 percent. An unidentified board member called the raise "outrageous" and said the increase had more to do with politics than anything else.

Mr. Lang was hired as CEO of UHD in 2007 at an annual salary of $125,000. He received a raise in 2008 and 2009 as well as this year. With this latest raise, Mr. Lang's salary will sit around the 50th percentile, which the compensation committee believes is consistent with his responsibilities and the board's philosophy.
