5 things to know about Tesla's leader exodus

One of Tesla's only four executive officers is temporarily stepping away from the electric car maker to "recharge," according to Bloomberg.

Here are five things to know about Tesla's recent leader exodus.

1. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a May 14 memo to employees the company will undergo a "thorough reorganization" that will improve communication and efficiency.

2. The company's Senior Vice President of Engineering Doug Field announced he is temporarily breaking from Tesla to spend more time with his family, according to the report. Mr. Musk has referred to Mr. Field as one of the world's most talented engineering executives, making his sabbatical significant for the company.

3. Mr. Field's decision comes after Tesla's primary U.S. regulator contact, Matthew Schwall, left the company and joined Google's self-driving car company, Waymo. Jim Keller, who was the head of Tesla's driver-assistance system Autopilot, left Tesla in April for a position at Intel.

4. In addition, two of Tesla's top financial executives left the company in March, and Tesla's sales chief Jon McNeill departed in February to join Lyft.

5. Jim Chanos, a well-known investor and one of the most vocal Tesla short sellers, said on "Masters in Business," a Bloomberg Opinion podcast, "It is never a good sign when almost all your senior executives are leaving with the stock price at a high. That's telling you there's something wrong. And I don't know what it is, but almost all the senior executives at Tesla see something and are leaving stock option packages on the table."
