65 recent hospital transactions and partnerships in October

The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general partnerships took place or were announced in the past month.

1. Baptist Health expands footprint in Indiana
Louisville, Ky.-based Baptist Health acquired Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Ind., and renamed the facility Baptist Health Floyd. The parties signed an asset purchase agreement in June.

2. CHS spin-off to sell Georgia hospital
Quorum Health Corp., the 38-hospital spin-off of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, signed a definitive agreement to sell Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder, Ga., to Northeast Georgia Health System in Gainesville.

3. TeamHealth to acquire Florida Emergency Physicians
Knoxville, Tenn.-based TeamHealth Holdings will acquire Orlando-based Florida Emergency Physicians, the exclusive emergency medicine staffing provider for numerous hospitals within the state's health system.

4. U of C Medicine finalizes merger with Ingalls Health
The University of Chicago Medicine finalized an agreement to merge with Harvey, Ill.-based Ingalls Health System.

5. WVU, Reynolds Memorial Hospital form partnership
Glen Dale, W.Va.-based Reynolds Memorial Hospital is the ninth hospital to join Morgantown-based West Virginia University Health System. 

6. OCH acquires Carthage Children's Clinic
Springfield, Mo.-based OzarksCommunity Hospital acquired Carthage (Mo.) Children's Clinic.The clinic was renamed OCH Jasper County Pediatric Clinic.

7. Louisiana reaches deal with BRF hospital operator
The state of Louisiana successfully renegotiated a deal with the Shreveport, La.-based Biomedical Research Foundation to operate Louisiana State University-affiliated hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe.

8. Kindred Healthcare sells 12 hospitals to Curahealth for $27.5M
Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare completed the sale of 12 long-term acute care hospitals to Curahealth for $27.5 million. 

9. Duke LifePoint terminates deal to acquire Good Shepherd Health System
Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint Healthcare ceased discussions with Longview, Texas-based Good Shepherd Health System over a possible acquisition.

10. Ardent, LHP Hospital Group merger to form 2nd largest private, for-profit hospital chain
Nashville, Tenn.-based Ardent Health Services and Plano, Texas-based LHP Hospital Group entered into a definitive agreement to merge the two institutions. The merged entity will become the second largest private, for-profit hospital operator by revenue in the U.S.

11. BayCare Health System becomes newest member of AVIA Innovator Network
Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System joined Chicago-based AVIA Innovator Network, a network of 20 health systems all seeking to transform healthcare through the adoption of digital solutions.

12. Evolent Health completes acquisition of Valence Health
Arlington, Va.-based Evolent Health, which assists healthcare companies in transitioning to value-based care, completed its $219.4 million acquisition of Chicago-based Valence Health.

13. Anderson Regional Health System to partner with Mississippi Blood Services
Flowood-based Mississippi Blood Services is the official provider of all blood-related services and products to Meridian, Miss.-based Anderson Regional Health System. The transaction took effect Oct. 1.

14. St. Joseph to cease operations at Petaluma Valley Hospital
Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health and the Petaluma Health Care District, which owns Petaluma (Calif.) Valley Hospital, ended their 20-year operating agreement.

15. Lee County Hospital Authority enters negotiations to reopen hospital
Pennington Gap, Va.-based Lee Regional Medical Center is one step closer to reopening after the Lee County Hospital Authority, which owns the property, signed a letter of intent to contract with Florida-based Americore Health.

16. Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center taps Advanced ICU Care for telehealth services
Show Low, Ariz.-based Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center will begin using tele-ICU services provided by St. Louis-based Advanced ICU Care in the medical center's intensive care unit.

17. Saint Francis Health System to purchase Oklahoma hospital, affiliated clinics
Tulsa, Okla.-based Saint Francis Health System agreed to purchase Vinita, Okla.-based CraigGeneralHospital and its affiliated clinics.

18. State approves Albany Medical, Saratoga Hospital affiliation
The New York Health Department and the state health planning council approved the affiliation agreement between Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based Saratoga Hospital and Albany (N.Y.) MedicalCenter.

19. Beaumont Health closes 3 clinics, sells one to California management firm
Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Health closed three occupational health clinics and sold a fourth clinic at its Dearborn, Mich., location to Long Beach, Calif.-based Molina Medical Management.

20. UnityPoint, Keokuk Health Systems explore potential affiliation
Keokuk (Iowa) Health Systems and West Des Moines, Iowa-based UnityPoint Health signed a non-binding agreement to discuss a potential affiliation.

21. Monterey, Salinas hospitals enter partnership agreement
The board of directors for both Salinas (Calif.) Valley Memorial Healthcare System and CommunityHospital of the Monterey (Calif.) Peninsula unanimously voted to approve a multimillion dollar partnership.

22. NJ officials extend deadline for proposals to operate Bergen Regional
State officials extended the deadline to submit prospective contracts to the Bergen County Improvement Authority, which owns Paramus, N.J.-based Bergen Regional Medical Center, to take over operations at the hospital until Dec. 2.

23. UCHealth, Associates in Family Medicine expand partnership
Aurora-based University of Colorado Health and Fort Collins, Colo.-based Associates in Family Medicine plan to expand their current partnership to create a wider, more integrated health network for northern Colorado residents.

24. Prospect Medical Holdings acquires Waterbury Hospital
Los Angeles-based Prospect Medical Holdings acquired a majority of Greater Waterbury (Conn.) Health Network's assets, including Waterbury (Conn.) Hospital.

25. Mid Dakota Clinic may move forward on Sanford Health merger
Bismarck, N.D.-based Mid Dakota Clinic officials are seeking to merge with  with Sioux Falls, N.D-based Sanford Health.

26. Clinch Valley Medical Center named Duke LifePoint quality affiliate
Richlands, Va.-based Clinch Valley Medical Center was named a Duke LifePoint Quality Affiliate due to the medical center's efforts to continually strive for and improve their standards of quality care, performance and patient engagement.

27. Report: Several potential buyers eye JFK Medical Center
Several potential buys expressed interest in purchasing JFK Medical Center, an independent hospital up for sale in Edison, N.J.

28. Maury Regional, TriStar Health embark on behavioral health affiliation
Columbia, Tenn.-based Maury Regional Medical Center and Brentwood, Tenn.-based TriStar Health will embark on a $24.4 million venture to build a 60-bed behavioral health hospital in Columbia, Tenn.

29. Sheltering Arms Hospital, VCU Health System propose rehabilitation hospital
Mechanicsville, Va.-based Sheltering Arms Hospital and Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health System embarked on a joint venture to combine both institutions' current inpatient rehabilitation programs.

30. Northwell Health purchases Eastern Suffolk Cardiology
Southampton, N.Y.-based Eastern Suffolk Cardiology was the latest medical organization to join Great Neck, N.Y.-based Northwell Health.

31. Children’s Hospital, Nebraska Medicine look to enhance relationship
Omaha, Neb.-based Children's Hospital & Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine, also in Omaha, are exploring new partnership options, including the possibility of creating an integrated health network.

32. WVU partners with Garrett Regional Medical Center on heart and vascular clinic
Morgantown-based West Virginia University Heart and Vascular Institute and Oakland, Md.-based Garrett Regional Medical Center joined forces to open a cardiovascular clinic.

33. Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Yale-New Haven Hospital consider pediatric partnership
Hartford-based Connecticut Children's MedicalCenter and Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Hospital are reportedly discussing a pediatric care partnership. 

34. RiverBend Medical Group to join Mercy Medical, Sisters of Providence: 3 things to know
RiverBend Medical Group, a Massachusetts-based healthcare practice with offices in Agawam, Chicopee, Springfield, Westfield and Wilbraham, joined Mercy Medical Center and its parent company, Sisters of Providence Health System, both based in Springfield, Mass.

35. Porter Medical Center to sign letter of intent with University of Vermont Health Network
Officials from Middlebury, Vt.-based Porter Medical Center and Burlington-based University of Vermont Health Network unanimously signed a non-binding letter of intent to negotiate a potential partnership.

36. UPMC acquires Susquehanna Health
 UPMC in Pittsburgh completed the acquisition of Williamsport, Pa. based Susquehanna Health. 

37. PinnacleHealth, Penn State Hershey call off merger
Penn State Milton S. Hershey (Pa.) Medical Center and Harrisburg, Pa.-based PinnacleHealth System abandoned their plan to merge due to the time and cost of continuing to fight the Federal Trade Commission.

38. CHS to sell controlling interest in home health business for $128M
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems signed a definitive agreement to sell a controlling interest in CHS Home Health to Louisville, Ky.-based Almost Family, a provider of home health nursing.

39. Perimeter Healthcare acquires WoodRidge Behavioral Care
Alpharetta, Ga.-based Perimeter Healthcare acquired Madison, Tenn.-based WoodRidge Behavioral Care. Perimeter officials said the acquisition will serve as the foundation for a new behavioral healthcare company.

40. Southcoast Health, Care New England end plans to affiliate
The respective boards of directors for New Bedford, N.H.-based Southcoast Health and Providence, R.I.-based Care New England voted to end their agreement to affiliate. 

41. Saint Anthony Hospital to partner with the UChicago Medicine
Chicago-based Saint Anthony Hospital declared its intent to partner with the University of Chicago Medicine for its obstetrics and pediatrics service lines.

42. FTC approves CentraCare Health, St. Cloud Medical Group integration
The Federal Trade Commission approved the integration proposal by St. Cloud, Minn.-based CentraCare Health and St. Cloud (Minn.) Medical Group, completing year-long discussions between the two organizations.

43. Cleveland Clinic to partner with ProMedica Cancer Institute
Cleveland Clinic officials partnered with Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica Cancer Institute in an effort to provide the community with more access to care.

44. Sparrow, Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital formalize affiliation agreement
Lansing, Mich.-based Sparrow Health System and Charlotte, Mich.-based Hayes Green Beach MemorialHospital signed a formal affiliation agreement.

45. CHS spin-off Quorum sells NC hospital
Quorum Health Corp., the 38-hospital spin-off of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, signed a definitive agreement to sell 64-bed Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet, N.C.

46. Indian Health Services, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to partner
The Indian Health Services and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's department of pediatrics entered into a memorandum of understanding to explore the creation of a pediatric specialty consultation service using telemedicine.

47. Wetzel County Hospital, West Virginia University Hospital to partner
New Martinsville, W.Va.-based Wetzel County Hospital and Morgantown-based West Virginia University Medicine agreed to affiliate to meet the needs of the community and to build on the organizations' existing relationship.

48. Timberlands Healthcare to acquire, rebrand Houston County Medical Center
Crockett, Texas-based Timberlands Healthcare acquired Houston County Medical Center and rebranded the facility as TimberlandsHospital, effective Oct. 1.

49. CHI St. Luke's to acquire Houston physician group
Houston-based CHI St. Luke's Health declared its intent to acquire The Woodlands, Texas-based multispecialty medical group Greater Houston Physicians Medical Association, effective Nov. 1. 

50. EvergreenHealth to acquire Seattle clinic
Kirkland, Wash.-based EvergreenHealth declared that Lakeshore Clinic, also in Kirkland, will join the health system's employed medical group. 

51. Kaleida Health, Brooks Memorial, TLC Health Network affiliation to move forward
Dunkirk, N.Y.-based Brooks Memorial Hospital and Irving, N.Y.-based TLC Health Network declared their intent to continue discussions with Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health regarding a potential affiliation.

52. Athens Regional Medical Center to affiliate with Piedmont Healthcare
Athens (Ga.) Regional Medical Center became the seventh hospital to join Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare System.

53. Steadman Hawkins Clinic-Denver joins Colorado University, UCHealth
Steadman Hawkins Clinic - Denver, Aurora-based UCHealth and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, also in Aurora, formed a partnership to provide residents greater access to new sports performance and advanced orthopedic services.

54. DuPage Medical Group acquires OB-GYN practice
Downers Grove, Ill.-based DuPage Medical Group, a multispecialty physician group, acquired Olympia Fields, Ill.-based Southwest Women's Healthcare Associates.

55. Citizen's Memorial Hospital, CoxHealth sign letter of intent
Bolivar, Mo.-based Citizen's Memorial Hospital and Citizen's Memorial Health Care Foundation and Springfield, Mo.-based CoxHealth signed a letter of intent to begin a strategic partnership integrating the two organizations.

56. Children's Hospital, UNMC team up to conduct pediatric clinical trials
The University of Nebraska Medical Center and Children's Hospital & Medical Center, both in Omaha, will team up to allow children from across Nebraska to participate in a series of clinical trials.

57. Dignity Health, CHI ink agreement to explore further alignment
San Francisco-based Dignity Health and Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives have signed a nonbinding agreement to explore aligning their organizations.

58. St. Joseph Children's Medical Center joins the Valerie Fund Children's Center
Paterson, N.J.-based St. Joseph Children's Medical Center and Maplewood, N.J.-based Valerie Fund Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders joined forces to expand the healthcare resources available to families in northern New Jersey.

59. Abbe Health to affiliate with UnityPoint - Cedar Rapids
UnityPoint-Cedar Rapids (Iowa) and Abbe Health, also in Cedar Rapids, signed an affiliation agreement to provide more coordinated medical, behavioral and aging health services.

60. Shuttered NC hospital accepts Duke LifePoint's proposal
After a seven-year effort to increase patient volumes, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health closed Franklin Medical Center in Louisburg, N.C., in October 2015. However, the hospital may reopen by next summer.

61. UCSF Health, John Muir Health to expand cancer care collaboration
University of California-San Franscisco Health and Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health are expanding their existing collaboration to allow patients the opportunity to receive quality oncology care closer to home.

62. Otsego Memorial Hospital to join Michigan rehabilitation network
Gaylord, Mich.-based Otsego Memorial Hospital and Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital signed an agreement to enhance rehabilitation care for residents in northern Michigan.

63. University of Florida calls off deal with Sanford Burnham research hub
Gainesville-based University of Florida will not takeover operations at Orlando-based Sanford Burnham.

64. HCA inks $750M deal to sell Oklahoma hospitals
Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America has entered into an agreement to transfer ownership of its Oklahoma hospitals to an affiliate of University Hospitals Authority and Trust in Oklahoma City. 

65. SSM Health, OU Medicine partner on comprehensive health network: 6 things to know
Oklahoma City-based SSM Health St. Anthony's Hospital and Physicians Group is partnering with Norman-based University of Oklahoma Medicine and Oklahoma City-based University Hospitals Authority and Trust to create a comprehensive health network and to provide innovative educational experiences for physicians, medical students and health professionals.
