The healthcare organizations signed an agreement Oct. 10 to consider building on their existing relationship. Officials from both organizations said a full merger is not likely, according to the article. Health system leaders said discussions will revolve around ways to delivery better quality care in a more cost-effective way.

The Omaha-based University of Nebraska Medical Center, which is already affiliated with both organizations individually, will also be involved in the discussions.

“The goal is to provide safe and quality patient care, excellent service, recruit top-notch pediatric talent to the area, educate the next generation of providers and invest in innovation and discovery,” said Brad Britigan, MD, dean of UNMC College of Medicine, said in a statement.
