NJ officials extend deadline for proposals to operate Bergen Regional

State officials extended the deadline to submit a prospective contract to the Bergen County Improvement Authority, which owns Paramus, N.J.-based Bergen Regional Medical Center,  to take over operations at the hospital until Dec. 2, according to NorthNewJersey.com.

Officials said the 19-year contract between the Bergen County Improvement Authority and for-profit manager Bergen Regional Medical Center LP expires in March 2017. By extending the deadline, officials will have more time to provide financial and operational information to interested parties, according to the article.

If an agreement is not reached by the deadline, county officials will consider various options for interim management, according to the article.

Hackensack University Medical Center, Teaneck-based Holy Name Medical Center, Wyckoff-based Christian Health Care Center, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center and Ridgewood-based The Valley Hospital, all in N.J., are planning to submit proposals, according to the article. Two of the three principals in Bergen Regional Medical Center LP, have also submitted separate bids to continue to operate the facility.

County officials will hold a scheduled forum on Oct. 17 to inform the public of the situation.
