RiverBend Medical Group to join Mercy Medical, Sisters of Providence: 3 things to know

RiverBend Medical Group, a Massachusetts-based healthcare practice with offices in Agawam, Chicopee, Springfield, Westfield and Wilbraham, will join Mercy Medical Center and its parent company, Sisters of Providence Health System, both based in Springfield, Mass.

Here are three things to know about the arrangement.

1. Under the agreement, ownership of RiverBend will transfer to Sisters of Providence Health System, according to a MassLive report.

2. RiverBend will have the same practitioners and does not plan to close any offices.

3. Richard Shuman, MD, president of RiverBend, said on the medical group's website that RiverBend's new relationship with Mercy Medical Center "will allow us to continue to pursue our vision of an inspired patient experience," and "be able to further enhance our patient care and increase the services available."
