The two health systems established the clinical trials through a four-year, $1.6 million grant awarded to UNMC by the National Institutes of Health.
Jessica Snowden, MD, an associate professor of pediatric infectious diseases at UNMC and Children’s, said the trials will cover a range of illnesses, including asthma, childhood obesity, prematurity and birth defects, among others, and will allow children from across the state to participate, according to the article.
Dr. Snowden said researchers do not yet know how many trials will be open, but that approximately 30 are ready to launch. Patients can begin to enroll in the trials beginning in November. Updates about the trials will be available on both health systems’ websites.
