WVU Medicine hospital to build new workforce training center

WVU Medicine Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, W.Va., will receive a $2.6 million federal grant for a new workforce training center on the hospital campus.

The grant funding, announced Dec. 15, comes from the Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration and will be matched by a $638,800 local funding commitment from the hospital, according to a PVH news release.

Hospital representatives said the grant money will be used to support planning and construction activities for its new Center for Medical Services and Workforce Training.

The center will include a 12,000-square-foot physical plant adjacent to the main hospital, a telehealth infrastructure to sustain telemedicine services and workforce training spaces. It is expected to create up to 265 jobs and retain 370 jobs over the next 10 years.

PVH is part of WVU Medicine, a 16-hospital system based in Morgantown, W.Va.
