Connecticut hospital temporarily transfers, diverts patients after power outage

Norwich, Ct.-based William W. Backus Hospital went on diversion and transferred four emergency department patients to Hartford (Ct.) Hospital after it lost power Wednesday night, according to The Day.

A spokesperson from Hartford Healthcare, the parent company of WWBH, said the hospital lost power around 9 p.m. when there were issues getting the generator online. The power was restored around 10 p.m.

"There was no impact to patient care but our emergency department did go on diversion as a precaution during this time," Shawn Mawhiney, the spokesperson said.
