Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear is scheduled to meet with officials from the recently rejected three-system merger this afternoon, according to a Business First report.
University of Louisville President James Ramsey will also join the meeting. The three systems involved in the planned merger are University Hospital in Louisville, Jewish & St. Mary's in Louisville and St. Joseph Health System in Lexington.
Gov. Beshear rejected the merger proposal last Friday, largely due to complications with University Hospital, affiliated with the University of Louisville, becoming a Catholic institution under the control of Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives.
There has been some disagreement over the status of University Hospital. University of Louisville contends University Hospital is an independent and non-profit institution, while Gov. Beshear and Attorney General Jack Conway have said it's a public entity.
