Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center to hire 72 employees of dissolved health alliance

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, N.Y., plans to absorb the employees of St. Lawrence Health Alliance, a group that provided management services for 25 independent physicians, according to a report from local news site North Country Now.

The health alliance is dissolving March 31 because physicians have started to centralize around the hospital, making its services duplicative, according to the report. Most of the 72 people the health alliance employs will hold similar, if not identical, roles at the hospital. Health alliance director Beth Stemples told North Country Now that employees will receive better benefits from the hospital. Pay and benefit negotiations are ongoing with the hospital union, but the health alliance's goal is to maintain employee wages at current levels, according to the report.

The hospital will benefit from the consolidated payroll and timekeeping systems, according to the report. Read the full story here.
