Atlantic Health Submits Medicare ACO Application

Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System has submitted its accountable care organization application to CMS, hoping to make its commercial ACO model work for the federal program, according to an NJBIZ report.

David Shulkin, vice president of Atlantic Health and administrator of its ACO, said the system has worked to form the framework and relationships necessary for an ACO over the past year. It first launched the model in Dec. 2010.

The system's application included participation from more than 1,200 physicians. Atlantic Health's three hospitals would also partner with The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., which recently formed the Valley Health System Regional ACO.

If the application is accepted, the Medicare ACO would launch April 1. Atlantic Health will know the response by no later than March 16.
