AMGA Offers Feedback to NCQA's 2011 ACO Criteria

The American Medical Group Association has released comments on the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s 2011 draft of accountable care organization criteria, saying a multi-tiered structure may dilute ACO efforts and limit their success, according to an AMGA news release.

Rather than adopting a framework of several tiers for ACOs, AMGA insists tiers should be limited to two levels: mature ACOs, which have the infrastructure required to be accountable for cost and quality, and provisional ACOs, which will reach maturity within three years.

The NCQA, which accredits managed care organizations, released a draft of ACO standards in October and asked for public comment through Nov. 19.
