3 Texas Healthcare Organizations Plan $105M Proton Therapy Center

Dallas-based Texas Oncology announced plans for a $105 million proton therapy facility to be developed in collaboration with McKesson Specialty Health, a division of McKesson Corp., and Baylor Health Enterprises, an affiliate of Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System.

The proton therapy center will be located in Irving-Las Colinas, a community in Irving, Texas. The 50,000-square-foot facility will include a proton cyclotron, two isocentric-gantry treatment rooms, a fixed-beam treatment room and advanced image guidance technology.

Texas Oncology will provide cancer services at the facility and will give patients access to clinical trials through its participation in US Oncology Research, a community-based cancer research network.

Construction is expected to begin in 2013 with a completion date of late 2015.
