KLAS, CHIME: Healthcare providers are increasing AI adoption

Healthcare organizations are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence software to help support areas including clinical decision support, patient engagement and revenue cycle management, according to a recent KLAS and College of Healthcare Information Management Executives joint report.

The Healthcare AI 2019 report is based on interviews with IT leaders at 57 healthcare organizations that are using AI across clinical, operational and functional areas. Some validated use cases include population health, clinical research, value-based care reimbursement and bed/patient staffing management.

Here's how the report participants rated their respective AI software vendor's performance, based on a 100-point scale:

· DataRobot: 94.3 percent.
· KenSci: 92.8 percent.
· IBM Watson Health: 86.2 percent.
· Health Catalyst: 85.5 percent.
· Clinithink: 84.9 percent.
· Jvion: 84.4 percent.

The KLAS and CHIME report also cited healthcare organizations' progress with adopting various types of AI solutions, based on CHIME's 2019 HealthCare's Most Wired Report. Here's what types of AI solutions the 483 participating providers said they were implementing or starting to use:

· Purpose-built AI vendors: 150 organizations.
· Analytics platform vendors with AI infrastructure: 185 organizations.
· Homegrown AI solutions: 95 organizations.
