HHS has sent meaningful use 2015-2017 modification and stage 3 rules to the Office of Management and Budget for final review.
The final rules were submitted Sept. 3 and are listed as "pending review" in the OMB's list of regulatory actions.
Some of the key changes for the 2015-2017 modification rule include a 90-day reporting period instead of the current one-year reporting period, as well as revised stage 2 requirements offering providers certain exemptions and flexibilities.
Proposed rules for stage 3 of the meaningful use program are slated to be the final stage of the Federal EHR Incentive Program. As currently proposed, all providers would begin attesting to stage 3 in 2018, regardless of their current stage.
