CMS Shares Additional Meaningful Use Information for Providers

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has provided additional information about meaningful use on the FAQ section of its incentive program website, according to a Government Health IT report

The following information was added to the CMS website:

• A physician must have 50 percent or more of their patient encounters during the reporting period at locations/practices equipped with certified EHRs. Patient encounters occur whenever medical treatment and/or evaluation and management services are rendered.

• Providers must agree that information submitted about clinical quality measures was generated from a certified EHR. They must state the information is accurate and complete regarding numerators and denominators or the ratio of patients seen for whom the provider has demonstrated a measure and the EHR has generated a report.

CMS also plans to host an education call May 19 to offer providers additional information about how to meet stage 1 of meaningful use and how to verify it in CMS' attestation module.
