UK hospitals hit with Oracle Cerner EHR outage

Hospitals in the United Kingdom are recovering from an outage that took its Oracle Cerner electronic health records systems offline, The Register reported Oct. 12.

On Oct. 11, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust staff were told not to use the EHR system due to a technical issue affecting Cerner.

This caused hospitals, a part of the Trust, to revert to downtime procedures, including paper charting.

One clinician at Barts Health NHS Trust said the outage was "overwhelmingly unsafe" for patients.

On Oct. 12 the Trust said the issue had been fixed.
