'Most powerful woman in healthcare': Judy Faulkner named 1 of 5 inspirational women in business

Noting that she's been dubbed the "most powerful woman in healthcare," marketing agency C2 Communications named Epic founder and CEO Judy Faulkner one of its five inspirational women in business.

The agency pointed to the fact Ms. Faulkner worked her way up from being employed at a physician practice affiliated with Madison-based University of Wisconsin to building an EHR company that serves more than 250 million patients from institutions such as Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine.

And she did so, the March 13 article noted, building all of the EHR software in-house and not taking venture capital or making acquisitions.

"Learning how to run a business takes time and does not happen overnight," the agency wrote. "The key is to start something, gain experience and take everything as a learning opportunity."

C2 Communications made the list in honor of March being Women's History Month.
