4 ways CIOs and CMOs can collaborate

There are increasing avenues for collaboration between chief marketing officers and chief information officers to accelerate digital transformation, CIO reported Jan. 17.

"The innovation necessary to provide the customer with a seamless experience can only come from marketing and IT working together," said Elizabeth Tluchowski, CIO at World Insurance Associates.

Here are four projects on which CMOs and CIOs can collaborate, according to the report:

1. Platform migration

To ensure whole organizations are using the same IT tools, CIOs can head up platform migration projects. CMOs prove helpful in such projects by disseminating information about technology changes and training employees to use new tools.

2. Revitalizing intranet

Some CIO and CMO teams are working together to revamp internal internet services. By the marketing team testing and training employees on how to use the updated systems and feeding the information to the technology team, they can better understand the gaps in service.

3. Improving customer experience

When CMOs and CIOs align on the goal of improving customer experience through digital tools, they can ensure the correct strategies are in place and can drive uptake. The marketing team can collect feedback from customers to improve user experience.

4. Web presence

IT and marketing departments can work together to identify the needs of web developers and content producers as well as improve data integration processes.
