Pay-for-Performance Improves Radiology Turnaround Times

A pay-for-performance program implemented at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Mass., resulted in faster turnaround times for final radiology reports, according to a Bioscience Technology report.

The project, which was published in the September issue of the American Journal of Roetgenology, assessed the effect of pay-for-performance on radiology report turnaround times for 11 subspecialty divisions. Study periods were three months before (baseline period) and immediately after (immediate period) the introduction of the program and two years later, after the program had terminated (post period). Turnaround times decreased by 62 percent between the baseline period and post period.
